Craps Strategy - Free Advice on Playing Craps

Craps is a game of chance, but the different betting options offer very different odds and house edges. Therefore, it's the best strategy to stick with bets that give the house the lowest edge possible. These bets would be the Don't Pass and Don't Come bets, which have a slightly lower house edge than Pass and Come.

The important thing is that when you bet Don't Pass or Don't Come and you get to the number (meaning that the bet is not right away won or lost), you should try to take full advantage of the odds bet, to cut the house edge even further! Because the odds bet doesn't give the house an edge at all, you should wager the maximum amount allowed on this bet. If you are allowed to wager twice the amount of your original bet on the odds bet, you will have decreased the house edge from 1.4% to 0.6%. Should you only be able to bet the same amount on the odds bet as you bet on the original bet, you still decreased the house edge from 1.4% to 0.8%.

One other important thing you have to know is that the casinos will only pay you in whole dollars, so no cents will be paid out. This might not seem like a big deal to you, but it can become a big deal in the long run! Because the payouts on the odds in the "Don't" situations are based around the number 6 (1:2 for the 4 & 10; 2:3 for 5 & 9; 5:6 for 6 & 8), you should always wager money in multiples of 6 on the Don't Pass or Don't Come bets. For example, should you decide to not follow that advice and bet $10 on Don't Pass. Then, the number 6 is established as the point, and you are allowed to lay double odds, which means you can add an additional $20. Now, if the seven comes before the 6, you win and you will get back $20 from your original Don't Pass bet ($10 in winnings + your original $10), and you will get an additional $36 from your odds bet ($20 of your original bet, plus $16 in winnings), eventhough you should have gotten back $36.67. So, because you didn't wager in multiples of 6, you didn't bet paid on $0.67 of the money you should have received. This might not seem like much, but adds up over time.

Should you want to bet on Pass or Come, make sure to bet in multiples of 5 or 10, depending on the table you are at. If you are allowed to bet double Odds, wager on the original Pass or Come bet in multiples of 5, should you only be allowed to bet single Odds (same amount as on original Pass/ Come wager), bet in increments of 10 to avoid losing money unnecessarily, when taking the odds bet. The reason is that the payouts on the odds bets for Pass and Come are all in multiples of 10 (2:1 for 4 & 10, 3:2 for 5 & 9 and 6:5 for 6 & 8).

When you get a chance to take or lay the Odds, always wager the maximum amount allowed to decrease the edge of the house!

After the point is fixed, don't add to your original Pass/Come bet. Take the odds instead!

After the point is fixed, don't remove your Don't Pass / Don't Come bet.

Most importantly, because Craps is a game of chance and in the long run, the house will win, you should quit while you are ahead.

Set a limit for a maximum amount you are willing to lose, and make sure you can afford losing that money! And quit, should you hit your loss limit!

Iincrease your bets when you are winning and decrease them when losing.
